Prince William is continuing his feud with Prince Harry by blocking his younger brother from returning to the royal fold, despite King Charles III reportedly reaching a secret agreement with the Duke of Sussex.
Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, attracted all the headlines in 2020 when they stood down as working members of the family before going on to produce the infamous Oprah Winfrey interview, as well as the 40-year-olds memoir in 2023.
All of those things have destroyed any relationship he had with his older brother and now the heir to the British throne seems determined to make sure he never returns from his self-imposed exile to the United States.
But that could be a source of disagreement between King Charles III and his eldest son, after the reigning monarch reportedly came to a "secret" agreement to begin to plan his re-entry into British culture, including distancing himself from Markle.
Time is now of the essence, however. The King is still battling cancer and it's reportedly serious, meaning after spending his entire life waiting for the throne he might not be sitting it for too much longer, something Prince Harry also senses.
"For Prince Harry," a source speaking to The Daily Beast said. "The changed potential timeframe for his father's reign poses particular problems because without a peace deal being hammered out with the institution of his family.
"There can be no meaningful rehabilitation, allowing him to maximize his impact as a global social activist, "showing up and doing good," as he and his team like to say.
"He thought he might have 20 years with his father as the ultimate authority to mend those broken bridges."
How will Prince William react?
In light of his father's health issues, it appears that William is seeing his training and grooming to prepare for life as king ramped up as he takes on more and more responsibilities and burdens as his father fights for his health.
But an agreement between Prince Harry and the King is not something Prince William would agree with and when he inevitably ascends to the throne, which could be sooner rather than later, he could even try to reserve the decision but according to the source, that's off limits.
"If a settlement were made with his father," the source continued. "William would not want to waste time or political capital trying to rewrite it when he became King."
