- Celebrities. Beware of beauty: How Sydney Sweeney and other female A-listers are used to make you lose money online
Sydney Sweeney has officially swapped her glamorous red carpet style for something far grittier-and fans are doing double takes. The Euphoria star was spotted on the set of her latest project in Charlotte, North Carolina, looking completely unrecognizable as she transformed into boxing legend Christy Martin.
Known for her signature blonde hair and hourglass figure, the 27-year-old actress was nearly indistinguishable, sporting a curly brunette wig, a blue bandana, and baggy clothes that captured Martin's 90s aesthetic.
With a brown shirt, hoodie, joggers, and minimal makeup, Sweeney looked every bit the part of the gritty, trailblazing athlete-miles away from her usual bombshell persona.
The biopic, directed by David Michôd, dives into the life of Christy Martin, dubbed "The Coal Miner's Daughter" due to her West Virginia roots. Martin revolutionized women's boxing with her unforgettable fight against Deirdre Gogarty at the MGM Grand in 1996. But while her career thrived, her personal life was marred by darkness.
A marriage that almost cost her her life
Behind the fame, Martin endured years of physical and emotional abuse from her then-husband and trainer, James "Jim" Martin. In 2010, their relationship took a tragic turn when Jim brutally attacked her, stabbing and shooting her before leaving her for dead. Miraculously, Christy survived, and in 2012, Jim was sentenced to 25 years in prison for his crimes.
These days, Christy Martin has reclaimed her life. She is now married to Lisa Holewyne, a former boxer she once faced in the ring, and dedicates herself to promotingboxing. Speaking to TMZ, Martin expressed her excitement over Sweeney's casting, calling her "young, hot, and talented" and eagerly offering to help her train for the physically demanding role.
Sweeney, who has experience in MMA and kickboxing, said she's ready to push her limits for the film. "I've been itching to get back into the ring and transform my body," she shared.
The film will go beyond boxing
Martin believes this moviewill resonate beyond sports, bringing awareness to domestic violence and sexuality struggles. "It's about more than boxing-it's about survival, identity, and resilience," Martin explained.
Though Martin hasn't yet met Sweeney, she's thrilled about the project, hinting at a possible cameo. "This movie will be something fathers watch with their daughters, making them aware of domestic violence," Martin said, underscoring the story's emotional weight.
Sweeney's incredible makeunder has already stirred buzz ahead of the biopic's debut at Cannes, with fans eager to see her step into the shoes of a true trailblazer-and transform more than just her looks along the way.
