Microsoft has unveiled plans to make Bing Chat available to developers of third-party web browsers.

“With so many new, useful features now a part of Bing, we’re excited to announce you can start experiencing the new AI-powered Bing in third-party browsers on web and mobile soon,” Microsoft wrote in a blog post.

Bing Chat, which is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4 large language model, was launched six months ago. After initially facing challenges and criticisms, it has managed to iron out the worst of its kinks in the months since its launch.

After launching within the Bing app and Edge browser, Bing Chat quickly spread to Microsoft’s other platforms like Office 365. Microsoft is now gearing up to offer it to third-party developers.

The forthcoming integration of Bing Chat into third-party browsers will help to amplify its impact, reach a wider audience, and further demonstrate its proficiency in providing summarised answers, generating images, and more.

Microsoft has expressed excitement about this progression, as it seeks to showcase the diverse capabilities of Bing’s AI to a broader array of users. However, the company still encourages users to leverage the AI within the Microsoft Edge browser to unlock extended conversational capabilities, chat history retention, and a suite of integrated Bing features.

The timing of this announcement coincides with Microsoft celebrating the six-month milestone since the launch of its AI features.

Highlighting the impressive reception the technology has received, Microsoft recently unveiled a YouTube advertisement underscoring that Bing has handled over a billion requests within this relatively short span.

“While the strides we’ve made in the past six months are remarkable, our anticipation for the next six months is even greater,” Microsoft stated in response to the positive progress witnessed so far.

Recent reports have also revealed that Microsoft’s historical major rival, Apple, is delving into its own iteration of the ChatGPT app.

As Microsoft’s AI journey continues to expand and evolve, industry watchers are keenly observing the impact it will have on the broader tech landscape.
